The finale of Peter Jackson's ingenious fantasy trilogy, in which the companions go their separate ways to seal their own fate and that of Middle-earth.
Sauron's army is about to attack Minas Tirith, the rock-built capital of Gondor. Given the menace of the enemy army, it weighs all the more heavily that Gondor's king is missing and only the frail Truchsess Denethor (John Noble) watches over the once mighty kingdom. Will Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) summon the strength to take on the task for which his fate has destined him? While Gandalf (Ian McKellen) desperately tries to motivate the despondent fighters of Gondor, Théoden (Bernhard Hill) gathers the warriors of Rohan to join the fight. But though they resist valiantly and passionately, the forces of men - among whom are Eowyn (Miranda Otto) and Merry (Dominic Monaghan) - have little to oppose the overwhelming onslaught of the enemy legions against the kingdom.
