Switzerland in the early 14th century: While the Holy Roman Empire is shaken by internal power struggles, the Habsburg King Albrecht (Ben Kingsley) wants to further expand his power. But in the villages and valleys of Switzerland, his arbitrary rule sparks popular resistance. When the hunter and former crusader William Tell (Claes Bang) offers protection to a fleeing peasant, he inevitably becomes embroiled in the battle for his country's freedom. But it is only when Albrecht's brutal governor Gessler (Connor Swindells) publicly humiliates him and directly threatens his family that Tell makes an irreversible decision: he not only becomes a resistance fighter - but the leader of a rebellion that will make history.
