Patrick Bateman is a successful New York yuppie who enjoys the luxury of the late 1980s. Only one thing sets him apart from all the other young urban professionals: he compensates for his increasing emptiness with sadistic murders, preferably of pretty women. Patrick finds it increasingly difficult to distinguish between reality and appearance, and a policeman also appears on the scene.
At first glance, Patrick Bateman is a normal, egomaniacal Wall Street yuppie, but behind the façade of the properly dressed bon vivant lies a murderous abyss of hatred and sadism. To fill the emptiness of his existence, which is illuminated solely by status symbols, Patrick has turned to serial murder. His victims include young women in particular, but also the odd careless business partner.
