Director and screenwriter Glazer drew inspiration for the film from the book of the same name by the late author Martin Amis. His film illuminates the horrors of the Holocaust from the perspective of Rudolf and Hedwig Höss, the commandant of Auschwitz, and his family, who live an extremely privileged life in their storybook home, wall to wall with the death camp.
