Perfection is the key to a life that excludes opportunities outside the norm. In A DIFFERENT MAN, director Aaron Schimberg (Chained for Life) tells an extraordinary story in which the opposites of convinced self-perception and misunderstood perception of others develop a destructive dynamic.
Ambitious but unsuccessful actor Edward suffers from neurofibromatosis, a severe facial deformity. When the opportunity presents itself, he undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically change his appearance. But life with his new dream face quickly turns into a nightmare when the role of a lifetime, for which he was born, eludes him. Obsessed with regaining what he has lost, Edward loses himself in the deep abysses of his own psyche.
A DIFFERENT MAN premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and then screened in competition at the 74th Berlinale. Both humorous and disturbing, this stirring drama puts its finger on the aching question of an entire generation: Are we the person we really want to be?
