Based on the novel of the same name by C.S. Forester.
German East Africa at the beginning of the First World War: boat captain Charlie Allnutt (Humphrey Bogart) supplies a settlement with his small river steamer "African Queen", where the God-fearing Methodist Rose Sayer (Katharine Hepburn) lives with her brother Samuel (Robert Morley).
After the surprising destruction of the settlement, the rough-and-tumble, freedom-loving Charlie sees himself as responsible and takes the old-fashioned Rose on board, whose strict morals make his beloved plumb life difficult. On the adventurous and often grueling journey, the unlikely couple gradually grow closer - unaware that the toughest tests are yet to come.
