MOVIES MEETS MUSIC
In collaboration with the “Movies Meet Music” series, we present you an extraordinary cinema highlight: the newly restored theatrical version of “Amadeus”! Miloš Forman's masterpiece is still one of the best musical films in film history. The life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart told through the eyes of his adversary Antonio Salieri is a great drama full of stunning musical moments. The Academy of Motion Pictures restored the film this year, and we are pleased to be able to present this milestone to you in the highest quality: as a German premiere in this unique version! This special event was made possible by the “Movies Meet Music” series from the Hamburg University of Music and Theater. This will provide a short preliminary program in which film scientist and film critic Christoph Dobbitsch will duly introduce the film. Look forward to an extraordinary evening at the cinema and the perfect opportunity to enjoy “Amadeus” to the fullest for the first or hundredth time.

While the child prodigy Mozart rises to become the musical sensation of the century, a murderous plan matures in his embittered rival Salieri.
It is the 19th century and the setting is Austria. Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham), a former court composer, mutilates himself and ends up in a mental hospital. He tells his story, which is closely linked to one of the greatest artistic personalities of all time: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce). He quickly achieves considerable fame, but also attracts envy. The ageing court composer Antonio Salieri is appalled by Mozart's vulgar nature - in Salieri's eyes, Mozart simply does not deserve his superhuman talent. From then on, he did everything in his power to destroy Mozart's career, although he always admired the composer's magnificent musical output.
