Maren is addicted to human flesh, but only becomes aware of this need herself when her father leaves her behind with a few dollars and a tape in a Walkman telling her about her predisposition. She sets out on a trip across the U.S. to track down her mother, from whom she hopes to find answers. She meets a man who teaches her how to behave as a person of this special kind, and later Lee, who joins her.
