Elliot Kintner (Paul Rudd) and his teenage daughter Ridley (Jenna Ortega) are on their way to the secluded estate of Elliot's eccentric, rich boss Odell Leopold (Richard E. Grant) when they accidentally run over a unicorn ... and kill it.
They have no idea of the unexpected magical powers it possesses and the disastrous events they set in motion. Because Odell Leopold has his own agenda when it comes to exploiting the unicorn's healing powers.
Pharmaceutical mogul Odell sees the unicorn's horn not as a miracle of nature, but as a medical resource with potential worth billions. In his greed, the patriarch does everything he can to commercialize these powers and escape his own fatal diagnosis. Together with his superficial wife Belinda (Téa Leoni) and his self-absorbed son Shepard (Will Poulter), he indulges in fantasies of omnipotence and dreams of immortality.
