Harold Fry (Jim Broadbent) was never meant to be a hero. Unassuming and well over 60, he has resigned himself to fading quietly into the background of life. Until one day he learns that his old friend Queenie is dying. Harold writes her a letter, leaves his house, goes to the post office and never stops going. Out of the blue, he decides to just keep walking, all the way to the hospice 627 miles (1010 km) away. Surprised by himself and to the amazement of his wife Maureen (Penelope Wilton), Harold embarks on a "pilgrimage" in hopes of saving Queenie. But will he get to her in time? For Harold, the adventure of a lifetime begins. With each step, he frees himself from his old self and rediscovers the wonders of life.
