Comedy based on the Game Stop financial scandal by Craig Gillespie, who was convincing with "I, Tonya" and "Pam & Tommy."
YouTuber Keith Gill (Paul Dano), aka Roaring Kitty, is a financial analyst and actually a pretty normal guy. A bit nerdy, perhaps. In an analysis created for himself, he examines the stock of GameStop, the chain of stores for video games, and finds that it is undervalued. Time to change that. In January 2021, he puts all his savings into that one stock and lets the outside world in on it via social media. Suddenly, his posts go viral on social media and not only does his life change, but so does everyone who follows him. A stock tip has become a movement. Everyone is getting incredibly rich.
While the values of small investors go through the roof, hedge fund managers Gabe Plotkin (Seth Rogen), Steve Cohen (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Ken Griffin (Nick Offerman) make insane losses every day. They had bet on the insolvency of GameStop in order to collect their profit from it. There is only one way to end the triumph of the financial amateurs: The billionaires of Wall Street strike back...
