The Great Escape

Mix of prison and war film in which Allied prisoners of war from the Germans attempt a large-scale escape operation.

A group of British, American and Canadian prisoners of war and escapees escapes from a specially secured German camp in Bavaria in March 1944. Under the command of the rebellious Virgil Hills, the squad has managed to dig a tunnel to freedom over the course of a year with the help of 600 prisoners, most of whom will remain in prison. Their escape coup puts the operations of the German army out of action for some time.
