Hans Fallada's novel about a working-class couple who resist the Nazis.
Otto Quangel, a simple craftsman, lives with his wife Anna in Berlin in the 1940s. The elderly couple are not particularly interested in political and military developments. This changes when their only son is killed in action in France.
The two inconspicuous petty bourgeois suddenly become radicalized and fearlessly begin their personal resistance campaign by sending postcards with anti-regime slogans. But their neighbors put them under the knife, they are arrested by the Gestapo and sentenced by the People's Court.
