Umberto Giordano's verismo opera Fedora is set in such diverse locales as a palace in St. Petersburg, a fashionable Parisian salon, and a picturesque villa in the Swiss Alps.
It is a melodrama full of memorable melodies, breathtaking arias and explosive ensembles. Star soprano Sonya Yoncheva gives the Russian princess Fedora, who falls in love with her fiancé's murderer. In the role of the murderer, audience favorite Piotr Beczala intones "Amor ti vieta," one of the most popular tenor arias. Sung in Italian (with German subtitles).
The Russian princess Fedora is a spy, avenger, lover, martyr and deceived all at once: after her fiancé is killed in an assassination attempt, she puts herself at the service of the police and tracks down his murderer in Paris.
