It is not without reason that medical student Emma (Fanny Leander Bornedal) has applied for the position of night watchwoman at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Copenhagen: she is finally in the place where her parents (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Sofie Gråbøl) once narrowly escaped the serial killer Wörmer (Ulf Pilgaard). In her new job, she hopes to uncover the traumatic events that have left deep scars on her family. When Emma's investigations reveal that the murderer she thought was dead is still alive, the young woman obsessively clings to the idea of finally being able to confront the psychopath.
