The most successful Indonesian horror production until 2022 is going into the second round. With more shocks, more thrills, more goose bumps and much (!) more (un)dead.
With SATAN'S SLAVES, Joko Anwar fulfilled a lifelong dream, broke box office records and was showered with film awards. With the sequel, he now chases his characters into the next nightmare. Rini and her family narrowly escape a satanic cult. They now prefer a high-rise apartment to the lonely cottage - lots of people, so no danger. But then an elevator drags neighbors to their deaths, ghostly creatures are up to no good, and the family discovers evidence of occult rituals. This puts her right back in the middle of her trauma. And worse is to come. The new setting, fresh characters and a deeper backstory make it easy for newcomers to find their way around the SATAN'S SLAVES universe and lose themselves in the sinister visual compositions. Anwar really steps it up in terms of macabre gothic flair, nasty jump scares and gruesome deaths. In fact, COMMUNION overtook the first part at the local box office and ranks third among the most successful Indonesian films of all time.
